Feeling Healthy

It’s been a while since I’ve written because it’s been a while since I’ve felt well enough to sit and write.  I got sick in mid February with a bad case of bronchitis.  I was out of work for 2 weeks with a high fever, aches and a cough that would make me woozy after an “episode.”  After the 2 weeks and 3 doctors visits, I tried to return to work.  By this time I had laryngitis that didn’t seem to want to leave.  Laryngitis isn’t a huge concern for most people, but my history told me to deal with this to the full extent.  I re-visited my Endocrine surgeon who was the person who brought to my attention that one of my vocal chords had been partially paralyzed during the first thyroid-ectomy.  He was concerned enough to send me to the Laryngeral Institute; where, after a horrific exam with a young, not-too-compassionate assistant, the doc came in and told me I had a really, really, really bad case of laryngitis.  That was it.  No cancer, nothing scary and what I had to do to get healthy was to “KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT.” 

For those of you who know me, you’ll know this was no simple feat!  But I stayed out of work, didn’t talk on the phone, visit with friends or go shopping and after 3 weeks — yes, three weeks! — was finally well enough to return to work…and just in time for the project I’d been working on since December to go into full swing.

I was back in work this whole week and it felt so good!  In my job I do most of it over the phone and it has been a pleasure to be back in Massachusetts and spending time on the phone with a large population of the south and midwest.  Ever since my days with the airline and our merger with Piedmont airline, I have completely loved being in one-on-one contact with people who are from the South. 

It’s good to be feeling healthy today and I look forward to writing more and keeping this blog more up-to-date.
